Now that you are preparing to test for your black belt, how has your view of Ninjutsu changed?
Well my views really haven't changed. I studied martial arts for ten years prior to joining the Columbus Ninjutsu Club (CNC), and CNC has been the best training experience so far for me. I have learned and studied techniques that are beneficial to my line of work, and I have also learned techniques that I have wanted to learn since I began traing in martial arts. I never had learned any jujitsu techniques or any type of take downs or joint manipulation techniques, so maybe my views have changed a little from being nervous about learning the techniques to enjoying learning and training in them.
What has been the greatest benefit from your training?
I would have to say learning new techniques as well as learning new and better ways to perform techniques I have already learned.
What has been your biggest challenge?
I would have to say the jujitsu aspect of our training. As I mentioned before, I have never learned anything like jujitsu in any of my martial arts studies prior to ninjutsu. Though it is my biggest challenge, I do look forward to learning new things. I am also not real good at the jujitsu aspect; I still feel that I am improving as time goes on and as long as I am improving even a little bit I feel that I will over come this as a challenge.
What advice would you give to a new student?
Come in to class with an open mind. Ask questions if you don't understand something; you will have enough upper ranked students who are more than happy to help you out.
